The Madras High Court directed a re-autopsy on the body of the man allegedly died under suspicious circumstances in Saudi Arabia.

The Court was hearing a petition filed by Ramani, a resident of Kanyakumari district who sought to conduct the re-postmortem on the body of her husband, based on a report issued by a forensic agency in Saudi Arabia.

The petitioner said that his husband went to Saudi in 2019 for work, and was found dead in October 2020, following an assault by one Christopher Raj in a quarrel over salary.

Ramani received the postmortem report stating that the death was due to contusion in the neck and it’s consequences.

However, no criminal action was initiated. Therefore, she filed the present petition.

Justice AA Nakkiran observed that in the absence of a thorough postmortem and finding out the cause of death, truth not disclosed.

The Judge directed the petitioner to make a complaint before the Kollemcode police station and on the receipt of the complaint, the police shall register the case under section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure immediately.

On scrutiny, the police would then proceed in accordance with law.
