A 40-year old Lawyer named Bhupendra Pratap Singh, Resident of Jalabad was shot dead by his colleague over a Rivalry in the District Court of Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh on 18th October, 2021.

The colleague was later arrested and four Policemen in charge of the Security were suspended.

Gupta, the Accused was detained outside his house after the Police established his role from the CCTV footage. After the arrest he confessed to the crime.

The Police said that the Victim had filed two dozen cases against the Accused which instigated him to take such a step.

An FIR under Section 302 (Murder) and Section 120 b (Criminal Conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code was registered against the Accused at Sadar Bazar Police Station.

The incident took place on the third floor. The Victim was shot dead by a country-made firearm.

The Superintendent of Police, S Anand said, “According to initial Reports, it appears the man was alone. No other person was seen around him at the time of the Incident. The Forensic team is at work…Circumstances around Killing unclear.”

The Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh announced that the Lawyers around the State will abstain from work on Wednesday as a mark of protest.

The Council has also demanded Rupees 50 Lakh compensation and Government job for the Kin of the deceased.
