Kerala High Court ordered the Central Government to file its submissions in a case challenging its Liberalized Pricing and Accelerated National Covid-19 vaccination strategy.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice S Manikumar and Justice Shaji P Chaly also remarked that “Prevention is key in such a situation, and vaccination is the only means of prevention.”

The Court also expressed worry about the rise of Covid-19 instances across the State and questioned if the administration was taking any preventive measures to address the problem.

The PIL, which was submitted by a group of lawyers from the Software Law Centre, was filed in response to the Centre’s Liberalized Vaccine Policy, which was challenged for its pricing and manufacturing structure.

The petitioner urged the respondents to take efforts to guarantee that the technology is made available to more manufacturers and that vaccines are delivered to the target population as soon as practicable.

Advocate S Prasanth, standing on behalf of the petitioners, also stated that, according to studies and surveys, just 40% of the State’s population was immune to the virus due to antibodies, and vaccination of the susceptible population was necessary at this time.

In one of the previous hearings in the case, the Court required the involved authorities to inform the public of the total number of vaccines procured and the total vaccinated population in the State.
