The Kerala High Court asks whether the roads are pasted to the ground using glue referring to the dishevelled conditions of the roads at the first sight of monsoon.

The court criticised the Kochi Corporation and PWD for the bad condition of the roads of roads owned by them at Kochi. Justice Devan Ramachandran also warned of strict action against the engineers and contractors concerned.

“The Contractors and Engineers will be certainly taken to task, particularly when, at the first sight of monsoons, the surfaces of the roads seem to be withering away. This cannot be tolerated any further.” the court said.

The corporation and the PWD were asked by the court to submit lists containing the names of the engineers responsible for the condition of the roads and action will be taken against them in the next hearing on July 18.

The court’s directions were in response to the information given by the amicus curiae about the state of disrepair of the roads.

“If this is so, it is extremely tragic and I must say that the stakeholders and the Engineers are forcing this Court to act very strongly” the court responded.

The court also directed the Kochi City Police Commissioner to file a report on why action has not been taken to ensure safe pedestrian pathways.

The secretary of the corporation will be personally responsible if the cables overhanging pedestrian pathways are not removed in the next few days, the court ordered.
