A consumer forum in Kerala has emphasized that coaching institutes lack the right to retain fees from students who decide to leave a course midway due to dissatisfaction with the provided services.
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission at Ernakulam highlighted concerns about unethical practices in coaching institutes, stressing the need to ensure fairness and prevent such institutions from imposing unfair terms on consumers in the education sector.
The decision arose from a case against VLCC Institute in Kochi, where a former student sought a refund for unfulfilled courses due to disruptions caused by COVID-19.
