Justice Aniruddha Bose has dropped out of the case involving West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s petition in the Narada bribery case.

Justice Hemant Gupta has asked the registry to post the case to another bench.

Earlier, Justice Indira Banerjee had also opted out of the case relating to violence in parts of Bengal after the State election verdict declaring Mamata Banerjee a massive victory.

The Supreme Court was hearing petitions by the Bengal Chief Minister and State Law Minister Moloy Ghatak challenging Calcutta High Court’s refusal to take on record their affidavits in the Narada case.

In the affidavit, they wanted to present their version on the CBI’s request to transfer the Narada case out of Bengal citing “Mobocracy” in the State.

The CBI’s argument was based on Mamata Banerjee’s protest at its office when four Trinamool leaders were arrested in the bribery case on May 17 and further alleged that the Law Minister had landed with a mob before the Court where the arrested leaders were being produced.

However, the High Court said they took the calculated risk of not filing affidavits and “Now they cannot be allowed to file the affidavits at their own whims and fancies.”

The Narada case is related to a sting operation by a journalist in which several Trinamool leaders were caught on camera accepting a bribe.
