J&K HC restrains Mahatta Café Owners from making Defamatory Statements against Haseeb Drabu

Queency Jain –

The Jammu & Kashmir High Court restrained Mahatta Café owners from making defamatory statements against the Former Jammu & Kashmir Minister, Haseeb Drabu on the latter’s Rs. 5 crore defamation suit.

Additional District Judge Srinagar, Justice Sudhir Kumar Khajuria ordered the wife and the son of Jagdish Mehta, namely Anita Mehta and Dushyant Mehta to restrain themselves from making any defamatory statements against Drabu.

Though Drabu approached the Court for a permanent injunction, the Court said that the Mehta’s are free to approach Court to cancel, modify, discharge or vary the order on or before 12 June 2021.

The defamation suit came after Anita Mehta has alleged Drabu for making an attempt to illegally grab her property. Furthermore, she approached the press and alleged the owners of Chai Jai for using political power and threatens her.

All the allegations of the Mehta family come after the J&K administration sealed the Mehta café, which apparently is owned by the Mehta family for over 100 years, for violation of Covid norms.

The matter is listed for further hearing on 12 June
