A senior IPS officer and Former Police Commissioner of Bengaluru, Bhaskar Rao, filed a protest plea against a CBI closure report in a Local Court of Bangalore.

The protest plea was filed over a closure report of CBI about an investigation regarding leakage of phone intercept by the Bengaluru police to the media in 2019.

“The petitioner-victim in the above case presents this protest complaint against acceptance of the closure report filed by the CBI agency in its final report no.8/2021 dated 30/06/2021,”stated the plea filed by the former Commissioner.

The CBI was investigating the leakage of the conversation.

The conversation happened between Bhaskar Rao and another man, who was alleged for having links with a Ponzi firm and was under surveillance.

The leak happened when Rao was all set to be the Commissioner.

Rao was supposed to replace Alok Kumar, an IPS Officer, who was in the power for only 2 months.

CBI stated in the closure report that there was no evidence how that confidential recording got leaked in the media.

CBI also questioned a lot of Journalists who published or broadcasted that audio clip.

Based on the investigation, CBI also found that the conversation which was aired on a local television channel was handed to the former police commissioner Alok Kumar.

The protest petition filed by Rao also stated that“After more than two and a half years of investigation during which not a single person was shown as either a suspect or an accused, the CBI has filed this closure report and hence the present protest petition/complaint has been necessitated.”
