Indian Naval Ship (INS) Suvarna while on surveillance patrol in the Arabian Sea encountered a fishing boat with suspicious movements.

INS Suvarna’s team conducted a boarding and search operation which led to the seizure of around 300kg of narcotics substances worth Rs.3,000 crores.

In the primary investigation, it has been revealed that the boat was of Pakistani origin and narcotics seized were meant for funding terror activities in India, Maldives and Sri Lanka.

The boat and its crew of five was ushered to the Kochi Port in Kerala.

This seizure is considered important not only because of the quantity seized but also because this seizure disrupted the illegal narcotic smuggling routes which originate from Makran Coast (Baluchistan) towards India, Maldives and Sri Lanka.

In the previous year around 1.6 tons of narcotics worth approximately Rs.5,200 crores has been seized by the Indian Coast Guard.
