The Calcutta High Court has permitted the Family of the 14-year-old girl who died on April 5 after being raped at Hanskhali in Bengal’s Nadia District to seek Protection from the State Government.

A Bench of Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj ruled on a Petition filed last week, saying the Family can seek Protection under the Witness Protection Scheme, 2018, and that the Authorities must provide them with security until a decision is made on their request.

On April 12, the bench directed that the Case be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Till the said application is decided, the concerned authority will extend full protection to the Witnesses and family members of the victim and will also ensure suitable psychiatric/ psychological treatment to them to come out of trauma,” the Order added.

Brajagopal, the son of local Trinamool Congress (TMC) Panchayat Member Samarendra Gayali, and his pals Prabhakar Poddar and Ranjit Mullick have been detained. The alleged group rape took occurred at the Trinamool Congress leader’s residence on April 4th night.

Brajagopal had invited the Victim, a class 9 student, to his birthday celebration. She died the next morning from heavy bleeding, according to reports.

Before she was raped, the Victim’s parents said she was forced to consume alcohol. Brajagopal is also accused of forcibly cremating her father’s remains and threatening to murder him if he told the Police.

The Family’s Charges sparked outrage, especially because State Minister Mamata Banerjee indicated that the Victim and the main Accused were having an affair, which was widely known in the hamlet.

Banerjee went after the media on April 11 for emphasising the arrest of the Trinamool Congress Panchayat Leader’s son.

The Victim’s parents, whose private comments were recorded by a Magistrate on April 11 at the Nadia District Court, disputed the Chief Minister’s Claims and stated that their kid was not pregnant.
