Prashant Bhushan, the Additional General (Law and Order) on Sunday said that the Accused of Gorakhnath Temple Case Ahmad Murtaza Abbasi was arrested and now Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) charged him with Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

Because Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) is invoked so there are chances that National Investigation Agency (NIA) will now Probe into the Case.

The incident took place on April 3 when an IIT graduate Abbasi forcibly entered the Gorakhnath Temple premises and attacked security personnel with sickle.

Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) is a strict Law which gives longer remand and extension in filing Charge-sheet.

“In the Gorakhnath Temple Attack Case, there are sufficient records, Evidence and Financial Transactions related to terror funding to establish the charges of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act against the accused,” said by Police.

In the al-Qaeda Case also National Investigation Agency took over when link with terrorism unwrapped by Anti-Terror Squad and arrested five accused.

Abbasi had completed the duration of Police Custody and so as per the Law he was sent in a Judicial Custody of 14 days.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath also lives in the Gorkhnath Temple in Gorakhpur but on the day of incidence he was not in the temple.

Abbasi was charged under Section 16, 18 20 and of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
