The Delhi High Court issued a notice on a petition filed on behalf of former Aam Aadmi Party Councillor Tahir Hussain

In his petition, he was challenging the charges of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) which was framed against him in connection with the Delhi Riots larger conspiracy case and he also claims for quashing of sanction granted in this regard.

A single bench of Justice Mukta Gupta after hearing the contentions from Senior Advocate Mohit Mathur who was appearing for Hussain issued the notice.

The petition also prays for keeping aside the review committee’s approval towards the grant sanction for prosecution under UAPA provisions calls upon Hussain.

The petitioners’ counsel contended that there was no appropriate reason which accorded under UAPA charges which have been made against Hussain.

“Today an act of dissent is being termed as a terrorist activity.” Mathur submitted.

The Court will further hear the case on 28th September.
