The Delhi High Court has instructed the Aam Aadmi Party government to consider the applications on priority for issuing ration cards to the applicants.

There were two separate petitions of two women seeking ration cards for getting their subsidised food grains.

The counsel, Tushar Sannu Dahiya, who appeared for the petitioner, informed that the application for ration cards has been pending for more than two years.

The High Court remarked that the issuance of ration cards cannot be delayed for a long time as the cards are mandatory to obtain subsidized food grains.

The Court directed the Delhi government to speed up the issuance of cards not only to the petitioner but also to all other applicants.

The petitioner’s counsel stated that under the information available under the Right to information act and data available on the National Food Security portal, the limit under the National Food Security Act, 2013 was 72,77,995 for Delhi, and out of which only 72,22,236 applications have been approved.

The Court ordered the Delhi government to file a status report on the matter before December 23.
