The Delhi High Court requested the Central Government’s, Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI), and Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi’s (IIT Delhi) responses to a Petition seeking the formation of a Committee to develop Guidelines for Visually Impaired people to Access Online and Technology-based Banking Services.

A Division Bench comprised of Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Navin Chawla issued summons to the Reserve Bank of India, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Delhi.

The Bench instructed the Respondents to provide names of qualified individuals who could serve on the Committee formed to address the problems presented. The matter will now be heard on May 26.

It went on to say that there are various easy solutions that may be applied to improve Blind People’s Access to these Services, and that a Committee should be formed to provide Recommendations in this respect.

According to the Petitioner, this group may include Officials from the Department of Social Justice, IIT academics with experience in software design, and persons who are Visually Impaired.

George Abraham, a Social Worker, filed the Case with the help of Attorney Srishti Agnihotri. Abhishek Jebaraj, an Advocate, argued the Case.
