Defamation case: Mumbai Court issues summon to BJP leader Kirit Somaiya

A Court in Mumbai has issued summon to BJP leader Kirit Somaiya regarding a Defamation case.

A complaint was filed by Praveen Kalme, founder of an NGO.

The complaint stated that Somaiya made false and slanderous remark.

Kalme also accused Somaiya of doing illegal things on the behalf of minister and called him a ‘Right hand man’ of the Maharashtra Cabinet Minister.

The complaint also stated that the allegations made against Kalme by Somaiya were baseless, defamatory and derogatory.

Last week, the Court held that all the documents produced before the Court, Prima Facie state that the statement made by Somaiya is worth questioning.

The documents produced on record Prima-Facie reveals that, accused Kirit Somaiya has spoken words and written on Twitter so that, it will be read by the public at large. It is also Prima Facie proved by the words spoken by accused Kirit Somaiya were such that, it harmed the reputation of the complaint,” stated the order.

Further, the order stated, “The verification statement of the complainant runs with his complaint. Thereby, ingredients of Section 499 and 500 of Indian Penal Code are Prima-Facie proved.”

The Court has ordered Somaiya to be present before the Court on October 5.
