Mumbai congress Chief and Member of Council (MLC) Ashok Jagtap moved Bombay High Court pleading for directions to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and State Government to grant permission to hold a rally at Shivaji Park, Mumbai.

The Rally is likely to be held between December 22 to 28, 2021 to mark the 137th Foundation Day of the Indian National Congress and Former Congress President and Wayanad Member of Parliament, Rahul Gandhi is expected to direct the Rally.

It was highlighted that Shivaji Park is a recreational space also used for Promotional Sports Events, hence needs explicit grant from the BMC and the Urban Development Department of the State of Maharashtra, for any such event to be conducted.

Previously, Ashok Jagtap was denied permission when approached to the requisite Authorities, henceforth he moved the High Court.

Advocate Pradeep Thorat representing Jagtap filed a Petition seeking for directions to the State and BMC to permit the use of Shivaji Park Ground from December 22 to 28, 2021 for holding a Public Meeting and other Consequential Permissions.

It was highlighted that the Congress party is in Alliance Government of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), a Ruling Party of the State.

The Plea will be heard by the Division Bench comprising of Justices A A Sayed and Abhay Ahuja on Dec 14.
