Coal Scam: CBI Raids 40+ Places in three states

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reportedly raided more than 40 locations in across three states in connection with a case of illegal mining and theft of coal from public sector coal firm Eastern Coalfield Limited (ECL), which operates in West Bengal and Jharkhand, including the premises of some alleged coal smugglers.

CBI raid in Kolkata, Asansol, 24 South Parganas, Durgapur, Raniganj, Burdwan and premises linked to Anup Majhi. 

Majhi, also known as Lala, allegedly runs an operation in the opencast coal mines along the Bengal-Jharkhand border. His coal racket, sources said, may have funded some political parties in the state.

CBI registered FIR against Anup Majhee alias Lala along with two general managers of ECL, 2 chief of security of ECL and two other officials for illegal mining, theft of coal from leased mines of ECL.
