The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana, in its meeting cleared 16 names for appointment as Judges in four High Courts.

Justices U U Lalit and A M Khanwilkar are among the three members of the Collegium that deals with High Court appointments, in addition to the CJI.

The Collegium has started taking measures by suggesting names to fill a huge number of vacancies in the Country’s Upper Courts.

One of the 16 names included the name of Advocate Sandeep Moudgil who has been recommended for appointment as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The other High Courts where names have been recommended for appointment as Judges are Odisha High Court, Bombay High Court and Gujarat High Court.

The Collegium nominated nine candidates, including three women, for promotion to the Supreme Court in a historic decision on August 17.

The names were cleared by the Central Government and the oath was administered to the newly appointed judges on August 31, 2021.
