Saturday came with a new beginning for S. Gopinath who was thrown out of service while he was serving as Joint Registrar at the Central University of Kerala.

The 3 years long-drawn legal battle came to an end as the Kerala High Court rescinded all the levelled charges against Mr. Gopinath by the University and ordered to clear all benefits and salary arrears that were not paid to him within 3 months.

Mr. Gopinath was thrown out of service due to the allegations that he played a pivotal role in obtaining a building on rent for the boys of Central University of Kerala Hostel and agreed to pay a monthly rent of Rs 75,000 as well as an advance amount of 3 months to the building owner without obtaining the permission of Vice-Chancellor or Registrar.

Mr. Gopinath was also accused of taking on rent a building without acquiring a Rent Reasonableness Certificate (RRC) from the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).

The lower Court found Mr. Gopinath guilty subsequently he challenged the Order in High Court.

However, the findings of the Enquiry Officer appointed by the Central University of Kerala were questioned by the High Court and it was discovered that all the decisions were taken at the level of Registrar and Vice-Chancellor of the University.

The Central University of Kerala will now have to pay a sum of Rs 1.3 Crore to Mr. Gopinath.
