In connection with the leak of CBI internal investigative records, a Delhi Court on Thursday sentenced Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh’s lawyer Anand Daga and CBI sub-inspector Abhishek Tiwari to two days in CBI custody.

Abhishek Tiwari, a CBI sub-inspector, was detained after he allegedly accepted unlawful gratification from Anil Deshmukh’s associates. According to sources, Tiwari was also in contact with Anil Deshmukh’s lawyer.

On Wednesday, the lawyer was held at Anil Deshmukh’s Mumbai home and  is currently being interrogated by the investigation agency.

“CBI has registered a case against its sub-inspector, a Nagpur-based advocate and unknown others on certain allegations, including illegal gratification. During the investigation of said case, the CBI has today (Wednesday) arrested the sub-inspector. The said advocate is being questioned,” said CBI Spokesperson RC Joshi to India Today.

The agency also conducted searches in Prayagraj and Delhi at locations associated to Abhishek Tiwari.

On Thursday, Anand Daga and Abhishek Tiwari appeared in front of Special CBI Judge Vimal Kumar Yadav of the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi.

In exchange for monetary rewards, CBI sub-inspector Abhishek Tiwari exchanged some classified data from the federal investigation agency with Anil Deshmukh’s lawyer Anand Daga and others, according to the CBI.

The CBI requested that the defendants be held in jail for seven days. Anand Daga and Abhishek Tiwari, on the other hand, were given two days’ custody by the CBI.

However, an FIR was filed by CBI against Anil Deshmukh and others under corruption charges.

CBI conducted the preliminary inquiry on orders of the Bombay High Court. Several pleas were filed before the Court after former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh had alleged that Anil Deshmukh had asked terminated police officer Sachin Vaze to collect Rs 100 crore per month from the bars of Mumbai and via other means.

“On completion of preliminary enquiry (PE), the competent authority directed registration of a regular case based on evidence collected during PE and the legal opinion,” stated the CBI.
