The CBI custody for TMC leader Anubrata Mondal’s bodyguard Saigal Hussain has been extended by a week concerning a cattle smuggling case.
The CBI has arrested him on June 9. He was produced before an Asansol court. His lawyer had argued by saying as to how can a government employee be arrested in such a manner and hence he should be granted bail.
However, the lawyer on behalf of CBI argued that Hussain’s Investigation is crucial to obtain information regarding the probe. Also, an investigation is to be conducted to find out whether he had more properties or not.
On June 15, his house was searched and some documents were seized. Multiple flats owned by him have also been searched by the agency.
CBI had arrested Hussain after they had found discrepancies in his statement and Hussain had allegedly spoken to Enamul Huq, the main accused of the cattle smuggling case.
The call records show that there has been several calls exchanged between them. Also, the Enforcement Directorate is also investigating on the money laundering aspect of the case as funds received were transferred out of India.
