The former flatmate of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Siddharth Pithani, who was arrested in a drug case related to the actor’s death, was granted bail by the Bombay High Court on Monday.
Rhea Chakraborty, Rajput’s ex-girlfriend who is now on bail, is also accused in the case.
Pithani was granted bail by Justice Bharati Dangre’s single Bench in exchange for a 50,000 rupee bond.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested Pithani in Hyderabad in May 2021. He is currently in judicial custody.
He had been booked for violating Section 27 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (financing illicit traffic and harboring offenders) among other charges.
Pithani had sought for bail, saying that he had been falsely accused.
In his plea, he stated that he had never been caught with any drugs in and that nothing had been found on him that may have indicated he was involved in drug trafficking.
In June 2020, Sushant Singh Rajput allegedly committed suicide in his Mumbai home.
Later, the NCB launched an investigation into an alleged drug trafficking ring in the movie business, based on several WhatsApp chats.
Additionally, the NCB had arrested other individuals, including Rhea Chakraborty. Currently, most of them are out on bail.
