The Bombay High Court Single-Judge Bench of A. K. Menon, on 8th February 2021, has postponed the hearing of a defamation case filed by Times Now Channel to 22nd February 2021.

The Times Now News Channel, on 19th January 2021, had filed a defamation suit against the News Laundry Website through its parent company, Bennett Coleman and Company Ltd. (BCCL). The Company was represented by Lawyer Vijay Hiremath.

BCCL has sought an amount of around 100 Crore as compensation from the News Laundry Website for allegedly “damaging its reputation” and for causing “mental distress”.

The BCCL, also known as ‘Times Group’, has reported that the News Laundry Website had defamed its reputation through its episodes dated 10th October 2020 and 27th November 2020. The media giant claimed that the episodes showcased were “beyond the realm of satire, parody or spoof” and “false, baseless and highly defamatory.”

The News Laundry Media Ltd., however, denied the allegations stating that it had no intention to defame anyone and rather, its aim was only to show how media companies’ are majorly interested in raising TRPs instead of focusing on facts.
