For the first time in the history of the United States, President Biden nominated Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, an African American woman for the U.S. Supreme Court.

Thus, Biden delivered on his campaign promise to further diversify the Court that was made up entirely of white men for almost two centuries.

The news broke out at a formal White House ceremony in the afternoon of February 25 when President Biden said, “It is my honor to introduce to the country a daughter of former Public School Teachers, a proven Consensus Builder, an accomplished Lawyer, a distinguished Jurist, one of the most — on one of the Nation’s most Prestigious Courts.”

Judge Jackson, on the other hand, said that she was “Truly humbled by the extraordinary honor” and she took a moment to thank God, her parents for helping her reach this historic moment of honor.

President Biden also said that for too long, U.S. Government and Courts haven’t looked like America and that it was high time that the U.S. has a Court that reflects the full talent and greatness of the nation.

Judge Jackson would be Supreme Court’s second sitting Black Judge and Third in history.

Justice Thurgood Marshall was nominated by President Lyndon Johnson in 1967 and Justice Clarence Thomas, who still sits on the Court, was nominated by President George H W Bush in 1994.
