Attorney General KK Venugopal Tenure Extended by 1 year

The tenure of Attorney General KK Venugopal has been extended for the second time for a period of 1 year by the Central Government.

KK Venugopal was appointed as the Attorney General on 1 July, 2017 for a period of 3 years after Mukul Rohatgi quit from the position due to some personal reasons.

Venugopal is one of the prominent lawyers who have been practicing law for the past 6 decades. He started his journey from Mysore High Court in January 1954 after getting enrolled as an advocate, he then later moved to Madras High Court.

After the Advocates Act was enacted, Venugopal in the 1960s started appearing before the Supreme Court and was considered as an expert in Constitutional Law. Venugopal was also an Additional Solicitor General in the Morarji Desai Regime.  

Venugopal, as an Attorney General has supported the Central Government in various issues like Aadhaar Case and Rafale Fighter Jet Deal.
