Punjab, Assam and Tripura informed the Apex Court that they are calling off the physical exams proposed by their respective boards for class 12 in view of the Covid-19 scenario.

Andhra Pradesh is the only state government left that has not taken any decision on the cancellation of class 12 exams.

Advocate Mahfooz Nazki, the standing counsel of Andhra Pradesh, told the Apex Court that the state government wants to conduct the physical exams as a matter of policy.

A vacation bench comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari adjourned the further hearing on the pleas relating to state board exams to tomorrow at 2 pm.

The bench asked the standing counsel of the State of Kerala, Advocate G Prakash, to get instructions by tomorrow on the decision of the state board to go ahead with the physical examination for the 11th class. Take instructions by tomorrow, or we will pass orders”, the bench told him. The bench also asked the other state governments to put on affidavit the decisions taken by them.

A week before the bench noted that out of 28 states 6 states have already conducted exams, 18 states have called off, however,  4 states (Punjab, Assam, Tripura and Andhra Pradesh) have not cancelled the exams as of now.

The bench directed the copy of the petition to be served on the standing counsels of the 4 states which are yet to cancel the board exams for Class 12.
