The Supreme Court denied granting Interim Bail to Sajjan Kumar, who was convicted in the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots case.
Sajjan Kumar claimed for interim bail on medical grounds but the Court observed that his condition was stable and improving.
The Division Bench comprising Justices SK Kaul and MM Sundresh questioned that “He is accused of heinous crimes. You want him to be treated like some VIP?”
Earlier, the advocate representing him stated that he should be granted bail on the ground of serious health issues stating the fact that he had lost eight and ten kilograms since December 2018.
The Court had then ordered the CBI to probe the matter and directed to file an affidavit concerning the interim bail application before September 6.
Last year as well the constitutional bench denied granting bail on medical grounds, the then Chief Justice SA Bobde said “It is not a small case. We cannot grant bail.”
Sajjan Kumar was convicted in the case of the brutal killing of five members of a family in Delhi, and setting up a massive fire in the gurdwara on November 1, 1984. He was the main accused in the case.
