The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday issued Notices to the Director-General of Police (DGP), Principal Secretary for Home, and Krishna District Collector to submit Counter Affidavits in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed Arguing the GO issued to withdraw Cases against Government Whip and Jaggayyapeta MLA Samineni Udayabhanu.

The Court was astonished as to how 10 Cases, including those of Felony, could be withdrawn with just one GO.

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed by one Krishnanjaneyulu from the AP Journalist forum (APJF) challenging these Orders.

Further, the Court interrogated Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government about the requirement to issue a GO withdrawing 10 Police Cases registered against Udayabhanu.

Jada Sravan Kumar representing the Petitioner highlighted in the Court that the GO is Unethical and Violates the guidelines of the Supreme Court.

Further GP Maheswar Reddy representing the State Government, argued that the Petition is not Maintainable.

Furthermore, Reddy stated the Government only directed the Public Prosecutor about the Order and hence the Public Prosecutor should determine whether to file an application before the Magistrate concerned or not.

AP Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy in May this year passed Notifications withdrawing 10 Cases booked against Udayabhanu during Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Regime.

The Police had charged Udayabhanu for the Kidnapping of Officials and also preventing Officials from executing their duties. These Cases were booked in Vastavai, Nandigama and Chillakallu Police Stations.
