After the News Channel TV5 telecasted offending speeches made by YSR Congress lawmaker Kanumuri Raghurama Krishnam Raju, a FIR has been lodged against the channel following which the channel has moved to Supreme Court against the same.

The Petition was challenged by Advocate Vipin Nair on the grounds that the said FIR was a result of telecasting offensive speeches made by Raju, a Member of Parliament from the ruling party of Andhra Pradesh (YSRCP).

The plea stated, “The only allegation in FIR against the Petitioner’s channel TV5 is that TV5 alloted “premediated” and “organised” slots to Mr. Raju, which according to the impugned FIR evinces a meeting of minds amongst the accused persons.”

The news channel submitted that they have approached the Supreme Court as Raju, the min accused, has been arrested after the FIR and is facing custodial torture by the Police.

Also, the channel contented that the FIR fails to establish any rational nexus of TV5 with any of the alleged offences.
