Allahabad High Court directs University to Introduce Sports Quota For LLM Course

The Allahabad High Court on Thursday while referring to the exceptional performance of the Indian Squad in Tokyo Olympic- 2020 directed the Registrar of Deen Dayal Upadhayay University, Gorakhpur to Introduce Sports quota for the L.L.M Course offered by it.

The Bench of Justice Saurabh Shyam Shamshery was hearing the Plea of Juhi Dubey, a University and State level Cricketer, who was denied Sports quota for admission in L.L.M as no such quota existed.

The Petitioner submitted before the Court that she got admission in L.L.B Course through Sports quota which she completed in 2020, although she could not claim the benefit of Sports quota for L.L.M Course as no such quota existed.

The Counsel for the University in retaliation Pleaded that the quota was granted faculty-wise and the complete quota of 2 seats was for L.L.B Course, thus leaving no quota for LLM Course.

The Court stated that “It is expected from University that such bright Sports Persons should be given the benefit of Sports quota even in Post Graduate Course of LL.M. also. State, as well as Union Governments, are also helping the upcoming sportspersons”.

The Writ Petition was disposed of with Instructing the Registrar, Deen Dayal Upadhayay University, Gorakhpur to assist more such Sportsperson and in best Interest Sports quota should be provided.
