Allahabad HC: Lord Krishna and Ram reside in the Heart of Indians

Surya Prakash, who was charged with making a derogatory Facebook post on Lord Ram and Krishna, was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court. The Court also said that Lord Ram and Krishna have a special place in the Hearts of Indians.

The Court, led by Justice Shekhar Yadav, stated that one’s Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression does not allow one to hurt other people’s religious feelings.

Justice Shekhar went on to say that whether one believes in God or not, no one has the right to hurt another person’s faith, and that citizens must respect the country’s tradition and great men.

The Court remarked, The obscene remarks made by the accused/applicant about the great men of India, Lord Shri Ram and Lord Shri Krishna, is an insult to the faith of the majority of the people of this country and it disturbs the peace, harmony in the society and the innocent people have to bear its consequences.

In the Commissioner of Police (supra), also known as Anand Margi case, the Top Court had held that the practise of Tandava dance is not an essential part of the Anand Margi Faith.

The Court also said that cow slaughter is banned during the festival of Eid as it hurts the sentiments of other religions.
