Rihan, a meat shop license holder had stated that the Police had incorrectly charged him for selling cow meat, although he was selling buffalo meat.

Allahabad High Court has granted bail to Rihan who was charged under the Cow Slaughter Act, for allegedly selling beef of cow progeny.

Justice Sadhana Rani stated that Rihan has presented his claim for bail, given the evidence presented and other factors.

The judge stated, “Keeping in view the nature of the offence, evidence, complicity of the accused, the severity of punishment and submissions of the learned counsel for the parties, I am of the view that the applicant has made out a case for bail. Let the applicant be released on bail on furnishing a personal bond.”

The counsel for the accused stated that the applicant was a meat shop license holder and on the alleged date the applicant was selling one quintal meat of buffalo.

It was stated that the Police had put the applicant behind the bars for an offence he did not commit and that he was languishing in jail since February 4 albeit the co-accused has been granted bail earlier.

The Additional Government Advocate opposed the bail of the applicant stating that “he may misuse the liberty of bail.”

The Court however in the light of the arguments advanced and the evidence presented, granted bail to the accused.
