In the Aircel Maxis Case, investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Delhi Court summoned former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, his son Karti Chidambaram and others on 27 November 2021.

The Summons was issued after the apprehension of the charge sheets filed by the Investigating Agencies.

At the outset of this week, a Special Court asserted that “We will pass the Order on whether to take cognizance of the Chargesheets filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Aircel Maxis Case on November 27.”

The Investigating Agencies informed the Court that they had sent Letters Rogatory (LRs) to United Kingdom and Singapore requesting specific information related to the Probe and there were some advancements noticed in the matter.

A Letters Rogatory (LRs) is a formal request from one Court to a Foreign Court requesting Judicial Assistance.

The Case is related to corruption and Money Laundering Charges, linked to the reports of irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval in the Aircel-Maxis deal. FIPB gave its permission in 2006 when Chidambaram was the Union Finance Minister.

The Rose Avenue Court has issued the Summons to all the Accused and has asked them to appear before the Court on December 20, that is the date of next hearing.
