On 6th February, 2022 the Mayor of Ottawa, Jim Watson declared a state of Emergency in the Capital city of Canada. The Emergency has been declared due to truckers who are protesting against the rules made by the Government, which stated it was compulsory for all the truckers to be Vaccinated.
The movement called “Freedom Convoy” was started as it was made mandatory for the US-Canada border truckers to get 100% Vaccination for the Corona Virus. The Protests began against the public health measures notified by the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau led Government.
The Mayor of Ottawa Jim Watson stated that, “(This) reflects the serious danger and threat to the safety and security of residents posed by the ongoing demonstrations and highlights the need for support from other Jurisdictions and levels of Government.”
The Freedom Convoy stated that the Protests will not end till the Government revokes the Vaccination mandate. Some of the Protestors are also seen waving Nazi Flags while creating havoc in order to take down the Canadian Government.
The Public Safety Minister for Canada, Marco Mendicino, stated that, “We put the question of Vaccines and Vaccine mandates on the ballot … in the (2021) election and we’re simply carrying out the promise that we made with the support of the vast majority of Canadians.”
The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, stated that the Government will not be intimidated by the Protests, as 90% of the US-Canada border truckers and about 79% of the Canadian Population have been Vaccinated for Corona Virus and that the mandate will not be revoked due opposition from a “small fringe minority”.
