A Hindu temple was attacked by members of the radical Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party (Fazal ur Rehman group) on December 30, 2020, in Terri village in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Karak. It brought strong criticism from Human Rights activists and Minority Hindu community leaders.

Pakistan’s Apex court ordered the Evacuee Property Trust Board (EPTB) to reconstruct the Hindu temple that was destroyed by the mob.

Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, during the hearing, ordered that the Shri Paramhans Ji Maharaj temple be rebuilt at the expense of the local Muslim leader responsible for the damage caused by the mob.

The incident appears to have been ignited by expanding temple premises which were reopened after being shut for almost a decade.

Pakistan is home to an estimated eight million Hindus forming a minority population.

The apex court said a detailed document will be released later. The hearing for the case will continue on January 19, 2021.
