Pakistan Hindu Temple Demolition: India lodges protest with Pakistan

On Wednesday a Hindu temple was vandalised and set on fire by over 350 people who were protesting its renovation in northwest Pakistan.

Leader of radical Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party, Rehmat Salam Khattak, among those arrested in police raids following the attack on Terri temple and Samadhi of Shri Paramhans Ji Maharaj in Karak area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

India has lodged a protest with Pakistan through diplomatic channels over the vandalisation of a Hindu temple in Karak district in the northwest Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday.

Pakistan provincial government ordered authorities to reconstruct the damaged temple as it vowed to bring the culprits to justice.

So far the local police, they arrested more than 30 people, including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader Rehmat Salam Khattak, in overnight raids.

After the demolition Pakistan court has issued directions to one-man Commission on Minorities Rights, KP chief secretary and KP inspector general of police to visit the site and submit a report on January 4. The incident drew condemnation from some Pakistani leaders, human rights activists and the minority Hindu community.
