19 Supreme Court Judges in Nepal are demanding resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana after grave allegations of having secret connection with the ruling party of Nepal.

As per the Kathmandu Post, 19 Judges are rebelling for the resignation of the Chief Justice and have been taking only Habeas Corpus Petitions for past 14 days.

Ultimately, the two prominent Bar bodies that is Nepal Bar Association and the Supreme Court Bar Association have put forth their respective views behind the Judges demanding for the Chief Justice resignation.

The Judges have alleged that the Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana had got his brother-in-law appointed as a quid pro quo with the executive in the Cabinet. It was noticed that he had assigned specific Cases to his own Bench or Benches over which he had some control.

They have also accused the Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana that he intentionally delayed the Hearing of sensitive political Cases and even caused difficulties in adjudication of corruption Cases by not filling the Judge posts in the Special Court tasked for hearing those cases.

The Chief Justice is also alleged to have some hidden connections with the ruling party Nepali Congress led by prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

The allegations put against CJ Rana are similar to the Allegations put against former Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and Ranjan Gogoi.
