The Telangana High Court has ordered the state government to impose a ban on the sale and use of firecrackers keeping the pandemic in mind.
The order comes after similar decisions taken by Rajasthan, Kolkata, and Delhi.
A Division Bench of Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy ordered an immediate ban while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), which was filed by Advocate P Indra Prakash.
The Court has asked the government to report its work status on the same by November 19.
The court observed that festivals hold great importance in our society, but people’s lives cannot be put at risk.
Earlier, the National Green Tribunal had ordered the ban of bursting firecrackers in the Delhi-NCR region.
