After a hospital in Rajkot caught fire where five COVID-19 patients were dead, the Supreme Court took a suo motu cognisance of the same.

A bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan, R Subhash Reddy, and M R Shah questioned the Gujarat government about the safety measures, precautions of fire accidents and ordered it to submit all the documents.

Justice M R Shah stated, “This is not done. This is happening in different hospitals. There needs to be an inspection of whether electrical lines are proper or not. How does this short circuit happen?

The report given to the High Court concerning fire safety is shocking! You don’t have the chief officer.”

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta has ensured that a joint meeting will be organised with the fire and electricity department.

“In marriages and political processions, 60 percent are not wearing masks and masks are hanging on their jaws,” the Supreme Court said.

This is especially happening in Delhi, Gujarat.

“We have seen all of this but, what are the states doing? All States have to rise to the occasion,” the Bench stated.

A further hearing will be held on 1st December.
