Punjab and Haryana High Court adjourns cases due to Covid-19

Cases that are pending in the High Court of Punjab and Haryana and were scheduled for physical hearing between December 24 and January 29 will be shifted to April and May of 2021 due to Covid-19.

The decision was taken by the High Court for the safety of the Judges, Court Staff and litigants, and senior officials of the Court.

The Court also announced that in case of any urgency then a counsel can move an application for advancement of hearing and the official also mentioned that the cases after March 24, 2020, would be taken up on the dates fixed.

The High Court is not taking any physical hearing and working in a very restrictive manner and since March, the hearing taken up is through video conferencing.

Cases that are listed between December 24 and January 4 are adjourned to March 31 and the cases of January 5 to January 27 to April 1 to April 30 and the cases listed on January 28 to 29 would now be taken up on May 3 and 4.

However, the official also said that an interim order can also be passed by the Court for extending the adjourned dates but till then the court will remain closed from December 24 to January 3rd for winter vacation and the cases will be taken by only designated vacation bench during this period.
