A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been moved before the Rajasthan High Court pleading that the court’s proceeding pertaining to COVID situation be live-streamed so that it is accessible to public at large.

The Petition filed by Legal Journalists Areeb Uddin Ahmed and Sparsh Upadhyay through Advocate Arpit Gupta, further seeks direction on Registry of the Rajasthan HC to ensure step of mechanism for live streaming.

The plea apprised that the live streaming of proceedings would serve as an extension of the principle of open justice and open courts.

Highlighting the judgement in the case of Swapnil Tripathi Vs. Supreme Court of India, the plea sought similar directions in which live stream would be considered under right to know and receive information and to ensure larger public interest and transparency and accountability.

Lastly the plea contended “It is most relevant to note that the public at large deserves to know the stand of the state government and other nodal authorities and what efforts are being made on behalf of the State of Rajasthan in dealing (with the Pandemic).”
