A Public Interest Litigation was filed before the Delhi High Court under Article 226 of the Constitution of India to sought directions to the Union of India to remove Amitabh Bachchan’s, Bollywood star’s voice from the COVID-19 caller tune.

The plea submitted states that Amitabh Bachchan does not have a clean history and hasn’t served the nation through social work.

The plea also mentions the prior cases pending before the courts against Amitabh Bachchan and therefore states that he is not suitable for such a service.

One of the cases against him was a writ petition that was moved by the National Organization for Tobacco Eradication before the Bombay High Court for the infringement of the Anti-tobacco Act by him.

Another writ petition pending before the Allahabad High Court adjudicates the maintainability filed by Amitabh Bachchan which challenged the declaration of farming land allotment to him.

The petition filed also cites a publication by Times of India where one of the prime witnesses in the 1984 Anti-Sikh riots was quoted asking as to why there was no FIR lodged against Amitabh Bachchan for provoking a rioter.

Mr. Rakesh, the petitioner has listed other such allegations against Amitabh Bachchan and therefore wants the removal of Amitabh Bachchan’s voice from the COVID-19 caller tune for not doing any social work or serving the nation.

Mr. Rakesh has also claimed that Amitabh Bachchan is not suitable to be paid for his voice-over as there were many other COVID-19 Warriors who have served the nation in various forms during the pandemic.

The court has not issued any notification on the petition filed but has listed the matter for hearing on 18th January.
