Former US President Donald Trump sued $22.9M for calling Covid-19 as ‘China virus’

A Chinese-American civil rights group is sued Former United States President Donald Trump for defamation and infliction of emotional distress.

Rights group, Chinese Americans Civil Rights Coalition (CACRC) has filed the complaint in a federal court in New York against Former United States President for $22.9m for calling COVID-19 the ‘China Virus’ and ‘Kung Flu’. That’s $1 for each Asian American and Pacific Islander living in the US.

According to the lawsuit, Former United States President’s conduct with regards to the virus was “extreme and outrageous”.

Former United States President Trump routinely used terms such as “Chinese virus,” “Wuhan virus” and “Kung Flu” during his term, which causes immense harm to the community.

In addition, the lawsuit claims Trump did not take into account how his conduct would cause “emotional distress” to Chinese Americans. Donald Trump continued to “intentionally” use the words in service of his “personal and political interests”. It adds that in the process, communities of Asian Americans were severely injured.
