AL Qaeda man Approaches Court Seeking Permission to Work as Doctor in Tihar Jail

Al Qaeda member- Sabeel Ahmed currently lodged in Tihar Jail who is a doctor moved to a Delhi Court on 13th May, seeking approval in order to be able to assist the prison authorities in dealing with COVID 19 cases.

In an application filed before Special Judge Dharmender Rana on 12th May, the accused- Sabeel Ahmed stated that with his experience and expertise as a medical professional he could prove to be beneficial in containing the surge in COVID 19 cases and treating the inmates in the Tihar Jail.

Ahmed, member of banned terrorist outfit AL Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) was apprehended on 22nd February by the Special cell of Delhi Police for allegedly giving logistic and financial aid to other members of the organization within India and abroad.

Ahmed’s Counsel, M S Khan sought a direction to be issued to the Jail Superintendent that the accused be allowed to assist the Jail administration.

“It is pertinent to mention herein that accused is a qualified MBBS doctor with seven years of experience in treatment of critical cases.His experience and expertise being a medical professional would be helpful for dealing with the surge in COVID cases and treatment of inmates in central jail, Tihar,” the application stated.

“It is, therefore, most respectfully and in the interest of justice prayed that directions may be issued to the jail superintendent for allowing the accused to assist the jail administration in for medical purposes on such terms and conditions as may be deemed fit and proper,” It further added.

Ahmed was deported from Saudi Arabia on August 20,2020 and is also an accused in the suicide terror attack that took place at Glasgow Airport (United Kingdom) on June 30, 2007.

He was taken into custody by NIA( National Investigation Agency) in a different terror case lodged in Bengaluru. Later on February 22 , this year his custody was taken by the Special Cell of Delhi Police in relation to the current matter.
